Staying Healthy

My name is Katie. I want to keep my body strong and healthy. I stay healthy by exercising. I like to run. I run 3 times a week for 30 minutes. When it is cold in the winter, I walk instead. School Uniforms

In the past, only students in private and religious schools wore uniforms to school. Today, many states are changing. Many public schools require students to wear uniforms to school. Some people like uniforms, but others don’t.

There are many reasons to have school uniforms. One reason is to decrease theft. In some schools, people steal expensive clothing. Students do not think about their expensive sneakers when they wear uniforms. A second reason is discipline. Principals and teachers think students pay better attention when they wear uniforms. A third reason is safety. A security guard can easily see a stranger in the school. Another reason is for school spirit. My Favorite Food

My favorite kind of food is Indian food. The food from India is delicious, and many of the dishes are vegetarian (they don’t have any meat, only vegetables). I don’t eat meat, so Indian food is the perfect food for me. I love to eat the curry dishes. Curry dishes have different kinds of vegetables like potatoes and peas. The vegetables are cooked in a spicy sauce. Curry is very hot and spicy, and it is cooked with many chili peppers. I like to eat curry with rice or with the special Indian bread called Naan. It is flat bread cooked with butter. I also like the drink Mango Lassi. Mango Lassi is a drink made from yogurt and mango fruit. It is delicious, especially on a hot day. I don't know how to cook Indian food, so I like to go to Indian restaurants.

My Favorite Room

My favorite room is my living room. It is a big room with many windows. There is a lot of light in this room. There is a bookcase and a reading chair in this room. There is also a coffee table. There is a red rug under the coffee table. The table and the rug are in front of a red couch. I love my red couch because it is long. I can sleep on it when I am tired. Sometimes the cat also sleeps on the red couch with me. The living room is good for both me and the cat.

Three years ago, I had an accident when I was dancing. I dislocated my knee. My knee went outside and then inside my body. I was on the floor. I could not move. My knee hurt VERY VERY bad. Somebody called 911 and the ambulance came for me. It was the night before Halloween, so the hospital was very busy. After one hour, the doctor took my x-rays. Then I went home. I had physical therapy for 6 weeks. Now my knee is okay, but I am more careful when I go dancing.

I don't celebrate Halloween because I am too old for trick or treating. Also, children don't come to my house for candy because I live in an apartment. But I do like to give candy to my students! And sometimes I like to wear costumes for fun.
